Meet Claudia

Functional Medicine Health Coach

Hello!  I’m Claudia.

My journey has always been oriented around living a full, healthy life and enjoying the richness that surrounds us.  I was born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil and from there I set off to travel the world, stopping in a few places to live in different cultures and experience a multitude of different lifestyles and mindsets: Australia, Spain, Colombia, and the United States.

This zest for life and embracing people in all their varieties and similarities has paralleled my deep motivation to be of benefit and bring something meaningful to the lives of others. I believe that our health is a fundamental pillar that supports everything in our lives: our pursuit of our dreams, our abilities to tackle what’s in front of our nose, and the attention and focus we can bring into our relationships.

I became a Certified Health Coach at the Functional Medicine Academy in Chicago-IL,  because I want everyone to have the chance to successfully optimize their health through nutrition, mind-body techniques, and lifestyle changes.  With guidance, information, and a positive, surplus-based approach,

I want to help people reach their goal to live a healthier and happier life.

In addition to being a health coach, I’m a long-time Buddhist practitioner with a background in communication arts.  And in my spare time, when I’m not meditating, you’ll find me on the hiking trails, in a pilates studio, or continuing my travels meeting new people and expanding my horizons.

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach and engaging both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership. It is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the healthcare needs of the 21st century. By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, functional medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms. Functional medicine practitioners spend time with their patients, listening to their histories and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. In this way, functional medicine supports the unique expression of health and vitality for each individual.

Why Functional Medicine Coaching?

  • Better health results — a 2016 study conducted by University of California San Francisco, showed Health Coaching can play a crucial role in chronic disease management, with patients fairing significantly better in achieving their clinical goals, when they were assigned a Health Coach.

  • Better education with easier communication access — unlike the time constraints of typical doctor visits, my job would be to take the time to ensure the clients have the proper education and tools they would need to make lasting changes and continual progress.

  • Motivation when the client needs the most through positive psychology — though most people wouldn’t think of contacting our doctor when they are feeling unmotivated, during our sessions, I would frequently check in on the clients health goals and provide that much-needed motivation when needed. Accessibility like this can result in greater patient empowerment and better outcomes.

  • Decreased healthcare costs — studies have also proven that working with a Health Coach can help the clients substantially save money in overall medical costs by reducing their need for doctor’s visits and/or possible hospitalizations, all through preventative methods.

What factors affect your overall health?

Nutrition

What we put into our bodies can impact our mood, our energy, and our physical health. By becoming mindful and intentional about what we eat, we can create balance, harmony, both physically and emotionally.

Emotional Health

When've seen that a greater grasp on emotional understanding correlates to increased happiness and satisfaction, along with better management of stress, while a lack of emotional balance has been linked to poorer outcome with physical health issues.

The right community can help you sustain your lifestyle and behavioral changes that are also important for long-term success, health, and happiness.

Community
Purpose

Understanding our purpose and sharing our unique gifts allows us to unleash our creative energy, embrace our quirks, and tap into joyful living.

Relationships

The quality of our relationships can influence every aspect of our health. It's okay to walk away from toxic relationships that aren't serving you -sometimes moving on is the best way to support our own needs.

Body & Movement

Scientists refer to exercise as a "polypill" because it treats everything. Your body is a complex, beautifully design system, that can become your greatest tool.

Spirit

We've seen that a positive attitude with enthusiasm for life, emotional vitality, and a sense of purpose can make people more physically resilient and decrease the risk of health issues, like heart attack and stroke. Take a minute to check in with yourself everyday.
